This Week in DJJ
Greetings . Let's dive into the latest edition of This Week in DJJ! (Quick reminder: if you've recently changed your address, phone number, or email, please reply to this

Naya Shalom, a children’s ministry leader from Kenya, traveled further than most to join our three‑day Disciple‑Makers Conference in Uganda. She arrived with a big smile and a single purpose: become an effective disciple-maker for Christ.
On bright green grass and under white tents, our team taught on stage, led panels, and hosted hands‑on study sessions with DJJ materials. For three days, Naya sat with pastors and ministry leaders, notebook open, watching demonstrations, engaging in discussions, and practicing the DJJ methods until the steps felt like second nature. She spoke of her passion in raising children and teens into disciples who love, fear, honor, and serve God.
By the end, she had a certificate in one hand, printed materials in the other, and a plan in mind: return home and disciple children and teens who disciple their peers. In her own words: “this training has been an eye‑opener… I’m actually now looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work."
Naya was one of dozens trained at our Uganda conference in August, and
one of several hundred leaders we equipped across Ghana, Sierra Leone, and Uganda over the summer. Each leader like her becomes a multiplier—taking lessons, tools, and vision back into their communities to raise the next generation of disciple-makers.
That smiling photo you see above is more than a portrait—it’s proof of multiplication. A direct result of your prayer and partnership.

Now that fall is upon us, I’m reflecting on my journey across Africa this summer. My friend and DJJ Mobilization Relationship Coordinator, Gene Thomas, and I led multiple DJJ Mobilization Trainings throughout the mission trip.
In just one day, we traveled from Sierra Leone to Uganda—refueling in Liberia, changing planes in Ethiopia, and witnessing the continent’s immense scale firsthand. We touched down in Uganda at 2 a.m., rested briefly, and were up again by 9 a.m. to lead another
Discipleship Mobilization training.
It’s no wonder that by the end of the trip we both were feeling under the weather, but the results made every effort worthwhile.
